"If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen."

The Environment Agency Needs Recycling

It's obviously unfit for purpose. I wonder who the Chairman is of this complete cock-up of a quango? Step forward Lord Smith of Nine Minutes = £500 whose thievery was highlighted earlier in Sunday Round-up.

Btw - that's the Thames Barrier Brown & Smith are setting their seal of approval on - run for the high ground!

From their website:
"We are an Executive Non-departmental Public Body responsible to the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs and an Assembly Sponsored Public Body responsible to the National Assembly for Wales.

Our principal aims are to protect and improve the environment, and to promote sustainable development. We play a central role in delivering the environmental priorities of central government and the Welsh Assembly Government through our functions and roles."

If a Brazilian recycling company can turn a profit by disposing British waste, no matter what it may be, let them do it. Look at the 'carbon footprint' of the ship ferrying it to and fro across the Atlantic! Oh - and ditch the Basel Convention.

The more news reports I read and the more I hear from Parliament, the more I think Cameron's Conservatives have real justification for adopting a Scorched Earth policy of their own - but they won't, of course; it's people who want that, not MPs. We'll be lucky to see a Singeing of the Quangos, let alone a Bonfire, and if the Grand Repeal Bill is ever enacted I will take myself down to the Houses of Parliament with a handful of lit sparklers behind each ear and sing Jerusalem with the Union Flag & the Cross of St George fluttering from each nostril before offering personal services to every MP who voted it into being.

I think I'm safe.
