"If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen."

Norwich Nth Results Declared

Chloe Smith (Conservative) was predicted to be returned by a margin of between 4-5,000. In the end it was more than 7,000. So much for Bob Blizzard (MP & govt whip) saying the margin would not be as large as the Conservatives had hoped for. "Whilst the Labour vote is down, the Conservative vote is not up that much in circumstances that should favour them".

Smith, Conservatives 13,591
Ostrowski, Labour 6,243
Pond, Lib Dem 4,803
Tingle, UKIP 4,468
Read, Green Party, 3,350

It's a shame Labour held on to 2nd place and that UKIP were beaten into 4th. Still, all in all, an excellent result for Chloe Smith and the Conservative Party. At twenty-seven she becomes the youngest MP in the House of Commons.

UPDATE: Other results
Craig Murray (Honest Man) 953
Robert West (BNP) 941
Bill Holden (Ind) 166
Alan "Howling Laud" Hope (Loony) 144
Anne Fryatt (NOTA) 59
Thomas Burridge (Libertarian) 36
Peter Baggs (Ind) 23
UPDATE: Here's David Cameron congratulating Chloe Smith and laying into Labour's "utterly despicable" campaign':

Standards are dropping at the BBC - look how they've spelled the word 'campaigning' above.

  1. A good day to be a Tory candidate. Gordon must be on his tenth whiskey by now.
