"If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen."

The Return of Alchy Ada And...

...The Crucible of Terror.
Brown made a statement in the House after Bollox Bob and his Ministers sat down, exhausted by their exertions in the Defence debate. Although it's a G8 Summit statement he began with what he called an update on our Armed Forces and Afghanstan. Lots of figures and tractor stats and he seemed to say all the right things about support and funding. However, on past performance, I find it difficult to trust him and, as I keep saying, it's action not words that count.

He repeats the mantra that we're in Afghanistan to prevent terror attacks in Britain 'and across the world' by dealing with the threat at source; 'three-quarters of terror plots in Britain have their roots in the region between Pakistan and Aghanistan'.

Time is being made on Thursday for a fuller debate.
