"If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen."

The Rate Of Attrition Rises Inexorably

According to the radio news, three more soldiers have been killed in Afghanistan in this bloody weekend. As others have pointed out, the msm only seems to sit up and take notice when some mythical milestone (eg 200) is reached but in a few short days the figure has climbed to 204. Here's part of a post from the Frontline Bloggers:
"Be in no doubt that we are in the fight of our generation, the future of this place will be decided in part by what we do now. In such times we live that young men will give all and in doing so sacrifice their precious futures.

On the news they will show impressive graphic projections and they will discuss the merits of one vehicle against another until you the supporters of the Regiment are confused or disillusioned. Allow me if I may to make things very simple, the fight we are in is to dominate key ground, this ground has been the home of insurgents, bandits and drug lords for some time and if we are to proceed with our mission of bringing peace we must remove these men and replace them with stability and law..."

  1. God bless the troops. Heh..I'm baccccccccck! :)

  2. May their deaths not be in vain. Sadly on this milestone day government sanctioned oppression of women is reinforced.

  3. Hi Angel, hope you had a good time. I'll be along later!
Ollie, I think the govt would fare much better if they were honest in their reasons for being in Afg - promoting women's rights isn't one of them.
Slightly o/t, on my wanderings I came across a news article which says US Marines (female) are now wearing headscarves instead of helmets at certain locations. Not much protection there.

  4. Give MPs a rifle and a one way ticket to Afghanistan's front lines. If they make it back alive then things might get better for the troops over there, if they aren't recalled immediately. With an emphasis on 'might'.
