"If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen."

And The Beat Goes On

"While many applaud MPs who have experience of the 'real world' outside Parliament through their business dealings, what will raise concerns the most is the extent to which former ministers are cashing in on contacts and information gained while in public office."  Spot on.

  1. This is the way that bribery works in the modern era.

A big corporation wants a favour from a politician. The politician obliges. No money changes hands, of course: that would be bad. A few months or a few years later, some 'advisory' or 'consultative' position becomes available (although, of course, that 'job' is never advertised to the world at large), and hey presto! just the right person for that role of £20,000 pa, for 30 hours 'work', is ---- have you guessed it yet?

  2. All of us need to take not of the directorships which the current crop of MPs take up after the election and blog about them.

You can bet your last £ that much of the hated legislation implemented by this conscienceless bunch was purchased by corporations.
