"If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen."

A Tale Of Two Judges

One judge released a self-confessed paedophile apparently because of a grudge against police. When a policeman was late for Court the judge said he should give the old man (who has previous convictions) a jail sentence but instead sentenced him to community work (Source LBC Radio - will post an online link when I find one).

The second judge, Judge Stephen Waller, gave 80hrs of community service to a 16 year old girl who attacked two policemen (climbing on the back and biting through the body armour of one of them) who had told off her friend for dropping litter. The judge said:
"You have, unhappily, displayed very little insight into what happened. You have showed no remorse or sympathy for the true victims here, who are the officers. It seems to me you see yourself as the victim. That attitude, I must tell you, is wholly wrong and you bear a heavy responsibility for what happened that afternoon."
If these two are anything to go by, perhaps it's time we had an elected judiciary as well!

  1. There is a kind of death-grip that hangs grimly onto bad old traditions, like the unaccountability of anyone in authority. The grip will not loosen, so maybe the hand will have to be cut right off.

  2. I hope these two are in a minority Edgar but you're right, the list just keeps on growing - I foresee a pitchfork shortage.
