"If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen."

BBC World Hardtalk: Wilders & Sackur

Since we're not invited to the debate today and are unlikely to see much in the tv news or press, here's a Hardtalk interview with Geert Wilders so we can hear direct from him what he has to say:

At about 6:15 in on the second video Stephen Sackur says, in what I think is an almost- accusatory way: "You want to impose what you see as an acceptable Dutch culture."  They weren't discussing Pakistan or Saudi Arabia; they were discussing Holland.  Try switching Holland for 'England' and Dutch for 'English'  to see how crass this statement is.

Sackur seems to have a problem stopping himself from interrupting or talking over Wilders & placing his own interpretation on Wilders' words.

At about 5:00 on the third video Sackur says: "Many Europeans, including almost all European leaders, want to see Turkey inside the European Union; negotiations have already begun.  Why is that not the signal to send a way of drawing moderate democratic Islam into Europe?"  Wrong.  This from yesterday: The EU report also calls for further reforms in ... and Turkey  and from September 09: Turkish hopes of joining the EU appeared to be all but over after Germany gave warning it was ready to join France & Italy in outright opposition to the country's membership.
