"If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen."

Say Hello To Your Uber-Government

Well, the deals have been struck and here's the final list of all the new EU Commissioners and their responsibilities.   Not a vote in sight - and they're in line for a 3.7% pay increase next year.

We have been completely betrayed.

These are five 'key' things on Barroso's long list of 'Things To Do':
  1. Restarting economic growth today and ensuring long–term sustainability and competitiveness for the future
  2. Fighting unemployment and reinforcing our social cohesion
  3. Turning the challenge of a sustainable Europe to our competitive advantage
  4. Ensuring the security of Europeans
  5. Reinforcing EU citizenship and participation.
I don't trust them with anything but I particularly dislike the wording of Nos. 2 & 5.

  2. You're right Sue, there's nothing democratic about it. They're in our schools as well, teaching our children - it's a disgusting subversion.

  3. It's good to see you back in the thick of things GV.

As for point 2 - reinforcing *our* social cohesion. Cue entrance of Turkey, as the bureaucrats march forth toward the oil nations.

And totally with Sue's point as well.

  4. The old saying about one swallow not making a summer applies here, CS - I'm in the middle of a solicitor/estate agent/vet/banks/removals whirlwind at the moment but some days are freer than others and that's why posting is raggedy and not as focused as before.

As for Barroso's priorities, No. 5 - 'reinforcing EU citizenship & participation' made me grind my teeth. Regarding oil and Turkey, I've posted graphics of proposed pipelines and mineral rights before, maybe it's time to dig them out again!

  5. With a view to Barroso's 'cohesion' - my back number plate needed replacing but I was determined NOT to get one with the EU stars on it. I discovered that Halfords are still doing plates with either a Union Jack or a St George's Cross above either GB or UK.

  6. Anon Nov 28th. EU gave permission for number plates badged for Scotland, Wales or England ( not N. Ireland because they could not agree on a symbol ) but not United Kingdom or GB.

I still don't know what 'community cohesion' means. Probably need re-educating.

  7. As I understand it, at the moment you can have either the EU stars alone or that together with a country badge but not the country badge alone. It's reminiscent of what happened over the backlash against weights and measures when the EU ruled (!) that goods could only be sold in Imperial measures secondary to and in tandem with kgs/litres etc.
