"If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen."

Albion Alliance

Here's an update on the Albion Alliance received via email today.  Please consider whether there is anything you can do to help:

Dear Albion Alliance member,

As you know this campaign is still in its first month, but it is fast growing in its popularity and membership.

The idea that the sovereignty of the United Kingdom has been given away to an unelected Government in Brussels without so much as a reference to the population of this country has enraged many people, and the reluctance of our politicians to address the EU issue is hardening peoples anger.

Labour reneged on their manifesto promise, likewise the Liberal Democrats who this week withdrew it from their manifesto completely and the Conservatives who have fudged and blustered but have finally come out against holding a referendum within the next 5 years. It is the view of Albion Alliance that there will not be a United Kingdom in 5 years time, as the proponents of EU integration are pushing ever harder and faster for Scottish and Welsh independence votes, and the break-up and regionalisation of England into 9 separate regions carries on apace.

That is why this campaign is centered on a personal pledge from Candidates intending to stand at the General Election in 2010. The political parties have shown their contempt for the wishes of the voters, but a personal pledge is something that we can hold individual candidates to, through the courts if necessary.

In order that we may take this forward to the next stage, we are developing a viewable database of all candidates who will be standing in the next general election, and will be populating that with their details over the coming weeks. It will be initially available to be viewed in Constituency order, but there is a further search facility to search by name, who has pledged, who has not pledged or those who have not responded to our letters.

It is therefore essential that we are able to work with the most up to date and accurate information, and bearing in mind that there will be 650 constituencies at the next election you can see how large a task this will be. Albion Alliance would like to ask you for your help in ensuring the integrity of that data, and to report back to us any mistakes that we may have made, or changes to the status of any candidates.

As this campaign rolls on, we expect it to begin to place enough pressure on candidates that they will change their minds and sign up, but I am sure that there will be the inevitable rebuttals from candidates, ever watchful for a bandwagon, who will claim that they have signed up when they have in fact refused. So that we may counter such rebuttals or requests for clarification, we would ask that if you write to a candidate, please could you let us know. If you receive a reply, we would request that you send it to us, either by email or as a scanned attachment, along with the original letter that you sent.

I would like to thank everyone who has joined us in this campaign so far, we are looking to take it wider and become more firm and forthright with candidates as the election draws closer, so please tell your neighbours, friends and work colleagues about Albion Alliance, because it will only be through weight of numbers that together we can force the change that we want, not the agenda that the politicians want.

Kind Regards

Albion Alliance

  1. Thanks for the post GV - data base of all candidates, with contact details, coming along nicely - should be available in about another 7 days.

Anyone will then be able to find the top 6 candidates for every constituency, along with their contact details (if they have provided any!)

  2. It sounds like a very good idea Mr Witterings. I take it those who don't supply contact details aren't serious about being elected ;-)
