"If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen."

Hootsmon Headlines

For those of you who don't read Scottish newspapers the Hootsmon is a parody of the Scotsman which once was a fine east coast broadsheet. In recent years its investigative journalism has more or less vanished and most political reporting is decidedly biased towards unionism. This upsets people like me who support independence and the talented Conan regularly produces a splendid front page of his own invention - The Hootsmon.

  1. Excellent stuff. The Scotsman used to be my regular paper but i got a bit fed up with it's shamelessly anti-SNP line (and i'm generally a bit unionist!) and the decreasing quality of journalism a few years back and gave up on it. I'll only occasionally buy the Saturday edition and then only because they have a Gaelic column. The only Scottish paper i regard as being half decent is the West Highland Free Press which has a pretty big left-wing slant but is at least quite open about its bias.

  2. I assume The Scotsman has signed up to the State Aid and/or bribery beloved of Labour.

Oh yes, Scotland, right. I like the Union, all I want to say. Listen now to the song. Not the normal rocknroll - much better.
