"If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen."

Shed A Tear For (US) Democracy

(Guest post from Captain Ranty).

Courtesy of UKWebSpider we see that democracy is officially laid to rest in the United States.

Artificial corporations now determine who wins, and who loses, in American politics. In the name of "free speech", they can donate billions. The popular peoples vote, you know, that thing that so many have died for, is for sale to the highest bidder. The Almighty Greenback decides all.

Here's a snippet:

"In eviscerating, longstanding rules that prohibit corporations from using their own monies to influence elections, the court invites giant corporations to open up their treasuries to buy election outcomes. Corporations are sure to accept the invitation.

The predictable result will be corporate money flooding the election process; huge targeted campaigns by corporations and their front groups attacking principled candidates who challenge parochial corporate interests; and a chilling effect on candidates and election officials, who will be deterred from advocating and implementing policies that advance the public interest but injure deep-pocket corporations.

Because today's decision is made on First Amendment constitutional grounds, the impact will be felt not only at the federal level, but in the states and localities, including in state judicial elections."

Land of the Free?

Not really. Not any more.

When America sneezes, we all catch a cold.

Keep an eye out for similar shenanigins here soon.

  3. Yes, I think you are right.

It hadn't been okayed by the Supreme Court before, and I suppose that is what makes it news.

  4. The UK seems to be leading the way now - the harder they are, the harder they fall.

The US laid down the third way; it carried out its experiments and laid the groundwork. If you want a conspiracy theory so unbelievable just watch 'Staring at Goats'. Then look around and guess the bluff or double-bluff. It's a fucking nightmare which the man on the omnibus doesn't want to engage with.
