"If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen."

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot

Question: Is it correct that soldiers' boots melted in the heat?
Hoon: "Some soldiers did not have the right boots."
So that's a 'yes' then.

It's what the majority has always maintained: it's one thing to fight a war but quite another to send in badly-equipped and under-funded troops.

And still the government persists in blaming the British people for 'not supporting' the Armed Forces engaged in Afghanistan. They just don't understand - we do, and that's why we're all so bloody angry that these feckless shysters in government have so comprehensively dumped on them.
UPDATE: Pressure grows on Brown as Hoon confirms he starved MoD of cash in run-up to war.
Not only that but:
"Mr Hoon said that when he became Defence Secretary in 1999 there was a belief in the MoD that they had never received the cash that they needed to fund the 1998 strategic defence review. When he pressed Mr Brown for additional funding, he was rebuffed."

  1. Yes GV Fabian mind groomed jaffas. They did this in Imperial Russia, checked to see who wasn't on message and then shot them later. These days they'll just tag your child at school, their record will show "No job in the great green paradise for this one, parent suspect" and we'll never get to see that record because its protected by commmercial confidentiality.

  2. Are you on the right thread Stoker or have I missed something? This was a quickie about a quote from Geoff Hoon at Chilcot this a/noon re melting boots for the soldiers in Iraq.

As for what you say about Fabianistas, doncha just wish you had a long wall & some blindfolds? I posted ages ago about children being fingerprinted for library and lunch access in some schools. It's down to the parents to find out and create merry hell.

  3. Yes GV Fabian mind groomed jaffas. I love this clown, who displays all the characteristics of a blind abacus driver and terminal coward hiding in the Fabian otherworld and I quote

"People know they face a big choice in this election, and they rightly want to know which party has learnt the lessons of the immediate past, which party understands the urgent demands of the present and which party will make the future better for the hard-working majority on middle and modest incomes."

I translate that as "Prepare to be poor"

As for treating our troops like IED garbage, he knew when he was looking at his cooked treasury books that the money could either go to equipping them or bringing in foreign rent seekers and lavishing them with our lucre. Which route did the war crimnal, murdering bastard take?

PS The Stoker had so many items open and malarkey going on he didn't know whether he was coming of going. Vengence will be ours.

  5. Incoming, for the lies, the lack of ordering proper kit in case it pre-empted a UN resolution & alerted the nation, for the whole damned farce, I'd like to see Brown & Blair shaved, tarred & feathered. As you say, far too much money spent on the public sector and keeping people on benefits. Welcome to soviet Britain.

Fausty, I think the thing many of us despise is that people like Straw, Hoon, Watt, didn't speak up at the time. They didn't speak up; they didn't resign. Yesterday, Hoon was very busy distancing himself from the decisions taken - like most of them - and it's Straw tomorrow! That pic accurately describes the crumpled wreck that is Gordon Brown :-)
