"If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen."

Everybody Knows

It's Leonard Cohen again so please don't slit your wrists :-) Cohen has an undeserved reputation amongst those who can't be bothered to listen:

Everybody knows that the dice are loaded
Everybody rolls with their fingers crossed
Everybody knows that the war is over
Everybody knows the good guys lost
Everybody knows the fight was fixed
The poor stay poor, the rich get rich
That's how it goes
Everybody knows.

Everybody knows that the boat is leaking
Everybody knows that the captain lied
Everybody got this broken feeling
Like their father or their dog just died.

Everybody talking to their pockets
Everybody wants a box of chocolates
And a long stem rose
Everybody knows.
And everybody knows that the plague is coming
Everybody knows that it's moving fast
Everybody knows that the naked man and woman
Are just a shining artifact of the past
Everybody knows the scene is dead
...Everybody knows it's coming apart
Take one last look at this sacred heart
Before it blows
And everybody knows.

Everybody knows, everybody knows
That's how it goes
Everybody knows...

  1. What a current piece of music to choose. Everybody knows but other than the few(you, I and others) no one is acting! Your move to poetry seems to be a wise one!

  2. Poetry and music have always been an integral part of this blog, TP. In fact, I think my first post was a poem.

I'd like to believe that for each blogger there are thousands out there thinking the same thoughts. For some reason, we haven't come together.

  3. One of my favourites however he is best, bare, stripped and raw GV.

  4. What a great choice of music. No need to ever apologise for posting Leonard Cohen.

  5. Thanks, I'm glad you all liked it but don't encourage me too much or I might take to posting more Jacques Brel as well :-)
