"If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen."

YouTube Caves In, Again

YouTube has begun censoring 'al-qaeda videos thanks to requests from British Ministers.  I know the videos are crass and that they preach hate and death but I still think we shouldn't be shielded from them.  We're not pussies and it's right that we know what we're up against.

First they came for the BNP
Then they came for al-qaeda.

I have a huge problem with the way government is going.   Incremental steps have invaded our lives under the guise of security but all they do is bind us and not the terrorists or law-breakers.   We are the decent, law-abiding folk; we are the majority:  Mr Man on the Clapham Omnibus, Mrs Housewife at the grocer's; Mr/Mrs/Ms Career, all just living a life in the face of increasing government strictures.  How many impositions can the majority absorb?

The eradication of freedom of speech and the imposition of censorship is wrong - there can be no grey areas.  It's particularly shameful to see it embraced by a country that once spread its values of freedom and democracy around the world in a cause for which many people died.  Anyone who hasn't read the Lisbon Treaty and its implications should do so.  Insulting a politician?  Burning the flag?   Member of an "extremist" Party?   It began decades ago and is only gathering pace now, since Lisbon.  I hope their haste for power and control is their downfall.  My life's regret is that my children think it's ginger-peachy and would rather work for an EU salary than fight against it.

Allahu akbar: I think it's a cry that's been heard once too often on English streets.

  1. Fully agree, GV.

They may say the nastiest of things, but if we curtail their right to free speech we surely curtail our own.

It's one of those "all or nothing" deals.

    CR.

  2. On issues of free speech, we stand together or hang separately.

  4. I agree too. Youtube should leave them up there to remind us what savages these people are. They'll only find somewhere else to put them up.

  5. Sorry, Sue, just spotted your comment as I take a final look before going 'incommunicado'. I think there must be a better way to deal with these people, even in an age of mass communication. Everything tptb say they do to curtail the hate-mongers only ends up costing the majority of law-abiding their own freedoms instead. Madness.
