"If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen."

Just Desserts

In the schemes of man, fiddling a stationery order may seem like a small, inconsequential thing.  Why not?  They're a big company with an unlimited budget and won't notice a few staplers.  Why not pinch biros, fluorescent markers, paper clips, blue-tac or reams of paper?  If your conscience can live with thieving, why not?  A pen here, an envelope there - who cares?

MPs' expenses might be out of the headlines at the moment, apart from the few who are being taken to Court, but the fact is that we care and we notice.    It's our taxes - the percentage the government takes on our work and our spending - that are being squandered by MPs such as Jim Devine.

It's time the assumption of entitlement by our MPs and local authorites was done away with.  People are voted into office to do a job of work on behalf of others - that does not confer upon them 'entitlement'.  They are not 'entitled' to fill their workplace with family members, filch stationery, flip designated 'homes' or evade Capital Gains Tax.

Next time, if there is a 'next time', make sure you know who you're voting for.

Jim Devine

  1. Election expenses - forgotten?

I'm trying GV, in my own small way not to let this fiddle be forgotten!

  2. It's only Parliament and the media who seem to have forgotten the sleaze, Mr W - the man on the street - the likes of you and I - should not. The system is broken and needs re-building. I don't think I'm talking UKIP here :-) I don't think UKIP has the balls to take on Westminster.
