"If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen."

More on Census 2011

The bandwagon against Census 2011 has rolled into the online press this morning with an article by AN Wilson in the DM.

Apparently, Francis Maude (Minister for the Cabinet Office & Paymaster-General) has tacitly accepted that it's a useless exercise but so much has already been spent on it that to scrap it would cost even more.  (I think we've heard that one before).  The questionnaire will be translated into sixty different languages and have a choice of 918 tick boxes.

I hope the rejection of the census gathers momentum and people finally stand up and say: enough is enough.

The Mail also has an article denouncing the tendency of disgraced politicians to milk the limelight instead of retreating gracefully (Smith, Prescott, Campbell etc)  and a strange snippet about Blair's priest and transvestite 'nuns'.

UPDATE: Some of those languages: Twi, Sinhala,  Ibo, Amharic, Tigrinya and Lingala

  2. Yes, OR - I think it's overwhelmingly been a force for good in the world. It's much more difficult for tptb to keep secrets these days.
