"If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen."

Cons/Libs Trail BNP

The LibDems and the Conservatives came 3rd and 4th respectively after the BNP in yesterday's Burnley by-election in which Labour took the seat from the LibDems; UKIP didn't field a candidate.

Labour took 43% of what looks to be an exceptionally low turnout:

Labour 521
BNP 288
LibDem 261
Conservative 81
Independent 58
(May 2010 - Lib Dem 926, Lab 869, BNP 509, C 469)
Lab gain from Lib Dem. Swing 11.8% Lib Dem to Lab.

People still haven't got the message about Labour, or about the importance of voting.   If there's much more of this I'll be wishing I'd stayed abroad.

  1. GV, the Labour vote stands up for the very reason they went for mass immigration. Pure gerrymandering which has also boosted the BNP vote. Shades of things to come and 1930s Germany.

  2. It's terrible, OR. Foreign nationals are allowed to vote in local and EU elections too and that also swings the vote. We need some electoral reform but I doubt it would go in the direction I'd like it to go, eg, we certainly wouldn't be giving votes to prisoners. Also, British-born for British votes :-)
