"If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen."

Diplomacy At Its Finest

This is the taped conversation between Richard Northern, our Man in Libya, and one of the Opposition leaders as Northern attempts to explain the circumstances surrounding the SAS/diplomat farce.  It's all a misunderstanding and all they were doing was looking for a hotel for the night.  It's been released by Libyan State TV and is all over YouTube.  Can the reputation of our country possibly sink any lower?  Well done, FCO!

  2. Any minute now Sybil is going to come out of the back room snapping "Basil! Basil!" and Northern is going to hiss "Don't mention the civil war. I mentioned the civil war once, but I think I got away with it".

  3. Embarrasing doesn't cover it really. Bring back Ross Kemp.

  4. Politicians seem to find their level sooner than most, Mr W.

:-) Someone, somewhere within the FCO/MoD/MI6 received a well-deserved kicking over the weekend, WoaR. Not only was it badly-planned and executed but their imminent arrival was plastered all over the British press the day before.

Banned, I can't remember anything as bad as this since the Iranian/RN affair and I think this eclipses that. International press are having a field day and British attempts to save face are only making it worse.
