"If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen."

LibDems Lose Deposit

The Liberal Democrat candidate was kicked into 6th place on a turnout of 36.5%  at yesterday's Barnsley Central by-election.  Well done to  UKIP who increased their share of the vote to come second but they're still a long way off.  The Labour vote increased slightly, possibly helped by the fact that their candidate is an ex-Para Major (you'd think he'd have more sense).

Dan Jarvis (Lab) 14,724 (60.80%, +13.53%)
Jane Collins (UKIP) 2,953 (12.19%, +7.53%)
James Hockney (Con) 1,999 (8.25%, -9.01%)
Enis Dalton (BNP) 1,463 (6.04%, -2.90%)
Tony Devoy (Independent) 1,266 (5.23%, +3.58%)
Dominic Carman (LibDem) 1,012 (4.18%, -13.10%)
Kevin Riddiough (Eng Dem) 544 (2.25%)
Howling Laud Hope (Monster RavingLoony) 198 (0.82%)
Michael Val Davies (Independent) 60 (0.25%)

PS  I'm suddenly having trouble accessing the newspapers this morning - not just one, but all of them - so you'll have to take my word for it that John Prescott has claimed £800 a day in expenses since being pushed up the greasy pole to the House of Lords and that, on LBC Radio,  Inayat Bunglawala has welcomed Clegg's multiculti speech and condemned the EDL as the real extremists.  Scandal of the day, so far, is that the MoD has paid £22+ each for lightbulbs that can be bought in your local shop for around 65p.  I'll add sources when I can.

UPDATE: The MoD also spent £103 on inch-long screws for Land Rovers that are worth £2.60
I still can't access the other sources.
Here's the Prescott story. Still nothing on Bunglawala.
