"If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen."

Another 'Government' Initiative

It's time for government, of whatever stripe, to stop treating us like idiots. When something comes from the EU they should say so instead of presenting it as an idea of their own. The latest comes from Philip Hammond, Transport Secretary regarding proposals to change the timing of MOTs.

There's no mention of the EU in his statement at all, completely ignoring the fact that this is to bring us into line:
“Car technology has come a long way since the 1960s, that’s why we think its right to look again to check whether we still have the right balance of MOT testing for modern vehicles. We want to work with the industry and motorists to get the decision absolutely right.”
He did exactly the same in recent debates and media announcements about HS2 (I posted a map a while back showing how it all ties in neatly with the EU's latest transport plans).

Theresa May's announcement about intra-Europe passenger data collection and checking is another EU initiative presented as the government's (also blogged about somewhere here).  They really do think we're stupid; perhaps we are. We shouldn't let them get away with telling so many lies.

Cameron offers Merkel the shirt off his back.

  1. I expect if they change it to once in two years, they'll make it much tougher

  2. Don't worry that shirt only cost the taxpayers 5X what any reasonable person would pay.

  3. I don't care how they re-arrange the MOT, TT, but I do care that they lie by presenting it as yet another of their great ideas and hide how much influence the EU really has here. We're in it up to our necks - they're too frightened to tell the people the truth.

    :-) True, Trestin!
