"If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen."

Herman's Haiku

"A corona of stars
Rolling over the deep blue sea
Together forever."

If it's true that van Rompuy likes to write haikus as a form of relaxation, away from the cares of the EU, he'll be picking up his pen more often in the future.  This is his latest effort which apparently celebrates Europe Day.  However, there's growing criticism of the EU and the role of the ECB in the financial bail-outs. There's also a General strike in Greece with lots of flag-burning; the Portuguese aren't happy; the Germans aren't happy. All in all it hasn't been a very happy Europe Day for our President. May he, and we, have many more of them.
