"If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen."

A good week to bury bad news

The media is still in full cry about News International and the BSkyB deal; most other issues are being sidelined, as we saw from the news about proposals for the EU flag to be flown at sporting events and sewn on kit.  Despite it being worthy of front page status it was relegated to the sports section of the DT. It's all very well the BBC and Guardian-types being "triumphalist" at the fall of the NotW but there are dangers for the country in limiting the quantity and quality of news available. Already there is too much information which simply doesn't get past a journalist's waste bin.

Here are a couple of blogs and some msm comment from the past two days:

“I don't want elections because it would be even worse. The radicalisation would be even stronger, It would resolve nothing." The leader of Belgium's socialist party explains why he thinks elections aren't good for a country.
Greater centralisation of power is the only answer to the EU's problems. A German political scientist argues that voting and democracy will never deliver what the EU wants; the only answer, therefore, is to seize control and ignore the people.
His employees' disgraceful misconduct has given our elites their greatest chance for decades to undermine that sturdy contempt or the powerful that makes us free men. The fight is on #battleforbritain
The left-liberal media is engaging in a fight for control of our minds by doing all it can to control the news we hear. Far from upholding media plurality they are actively striving to restrict it. The high stakes being played for in the guise of get Murdoch.

One from Guido:
Ed & Tom

From UKIP News:
"It has become increasingly obvious that while we remain in the European Union, the government we vote for in Westminster is unable to do that because its hands are tied by Brussels." Key Tory donor defects to UKIP and takes his money with him.

Three from the Telegraph:
In the name of making our “society” kinder and fairer it is actually eroding our freedoms, stealing our livelihoods, stoking resentment and social division, destroying our economic future. Delingpole goes to town on the liberal left.
Leaked EU document shows taxpayers will support European banks that fail the stress tests. The taxpayer continues to be muggins.
It's official. There will be no labelling of halal-slaughtered animals or by-products.

One from RT:
Woman faces imprisonment for her vegetable patch. It's all about control of what we grow for ourselves & our neighbours and the food we choose to eat.
“When you see that in order to produce, you need to obtain permission from men who produce nothing; when you see that money is flowing to those who deal not in goods, but in favors; when you see that men get rich more easily by graft than by work, and your laws no longer protect you against them, but protect them against you. . . you may know that your society is doomed.” Ayn Rand, Atlas Shrugged.

LATE ADDITION:
If you look back over the last 60 years, you will have seen a pattern emerge. And curiously, it is a pattern that is emerging in other western countries as well. The key aspects of this pattern in all the afflicted countries are the same. Earwig @ Max Farquar suggests 18 ways to see an immediate improvement in our country. Excellent reading.
